November 30: The World Fund for Development and Planning, Special Consultant to theUnited Nation Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC ), headed by Ambassador Ekramy El Zaghat, launched a new international convention open to the participation of countries, intergovernmental organizations and international organizations, in order to achieve the United Nations sustainable development goals and support the 2030 Agenda.
El Zaghat stressed in a statement today, Monday, that the aim of the convention is to achieve the goals of sustainable development of the United Nations, to support developing countries, explaining that the convention is a global call to work towards creating a more equitable and just world that ensures that no one lags in development and progress in all aspects areas of life.
The President of the WFDP added that in 2015 all member states of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, noting that it is the plan that WFDP seeks to achieve and implement in cooperation with member states, to support developing countries in achieving sustainable development and work to advance development in these countries.
As the President explained, the convention came at a time when the world was suffering from many upheavals, and as soon as the Corona pandemic receded, the Russian-Ukrainian war broke out, in addition to climate changes affecting millions in countries of the world, stressing that everyone must unite for Supporting and developing countries to help overcome these crises.
El Zaghat continued, that Goal 17 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which the WFDP is working to implement, provides for strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development, and it also includes many items, the most prominent of which is creating conditions conducive to a sustainable future through the joint action of countries and local communities. To revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, to promote domestic resource mobilization, including through international support to developing countries, to improve domestic capacities in the collection of taxes and other revenues.
He pointed out that the items include helping developing countries to achieve debt sustainability in the long term by coordinating policies aimed at strengthening financing, alleviating debt burdens and restructuring them, as appropriate, and addressing the issue of external debt of the poor countries burdened with them to get them out of the critical indebtedness situation, encouraging and promoting effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, drawing on the experiences gained from the partnerships and their resource mobilization strategies.
For his part, Deny Dobobrov, WFDP’s Envoy for government relations in USA, said that the convention seeks to provide a common blueprint for a more peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future for societies, noting that the goal is to provide education, health care, financial inclusion, technology and economic stability for all equally.
He added that the fund believes that meaningful strategic partnerships are necessary to ensure the sustainability of sustainable development programs, especially since strategic and comprehensive partnerships play a crucial role in achieving meaningful development.
Prof.Dr.Dinesh Sabnis, Peace Envoy & Addl Representative to UN Geneva for WFDP mentioned that SDG Programs in today’s growing world is mandatory and sustainability is a key area of success wherein WFDP has taken special initiative in implementing such programs for benefit of global society.
